I have always had a keen interest to keep fit and be healthy, I played some team sports when I was younger and into my teenage years, then started going to a regular gym where I mostly liked to participate in the group classes occasionally mixed up with some running and a weights program. This was ok for a while and served the purpose, until I became bored and my fitness plateaued, I was no longer seeing any gains in the weights I was lifting, nor had the self motivation to try and push myself.
CrossFit was suggested to me as a way to help with a shoulder injury I had at the time, not convinced, and unsure of what it even was, I decided to give it a crack.
Fair to say, I walked away hating it, I was in a world of pain after using muscles I don’t think I’d ever used before. However, I persevered, and it then became a love/hate relationship for awhile, that was up until I really started to see a change in my strength and capabilities in things I never thought I’d be able do.
That was it, I was hooked, and from then on, CrossFit became my training program. I decided to get my Level 1 Coaching Cert, and Damien then started to coach me in my coaching.
I’m still learning new things about CrossFit and lifting all the time, and that’s why I love it so much, it’s a constant learning curve and there is no chance of getting bored! Once you nail something, there is always the next challenge to tackle! The other thing about CrossFit is the diversity of the sport and the amazing community atmosphere, it quickly becomes addictive and you can’t get enough.
Being a coach is so rewarding, to be a part of other people’s achievements and help them reach their goals, giving them the encouragement to push themselves that little bit harder to smash a WOD or get a PB, and to witness that self satisfaction once the job is done.
I look forward to continuing a big and exciting CrossFit journey, both as a coach and as a CrossFit athlete.
